Bengaluru Agricultural University (BAU) will host a four-day agricultural fair from November 13 to 16 under the theme “Prosperous Agriculture for a Developed India: Soil, Water, and Crops,” announced Dr. V.N. Shivalingayya, Director of Extension, at a press conference held at Chandurayanahalli Agricultural Science Center in the taluk.
Marking the 60th anniversary of the university, the fair aims to highlight the scientific and responsible use of India’s critical natural resources—soil, water, and biodiversity—while promoting sustainable farming practices and increased farmer incomes. The event will serve as a unique platform to showcase agriculture’s contribution to India’s development vision.
Dr. Shivalingayya noted that BAU has been at the forefront of water management research, developing several watershed models and contributing to the establishment of the country’s first Department of Watershed Development in the state. The university has successfully advanced research in rainfed agriculture over the past five decades, achieving sustainable production through improved cropping systems. It has also played a vital role in implementing government policies and schemes.
The fair will feature an extensive exhibition of farm technologies, crop demonstrations, discussion forums, advisory services, awards for outstanding farmers, rural arts, and public engagement activities. In line with promoting agricultural innovation and alternative income sources for farmers, the event will introduce agri-tourism initiatives to spark public interest in farming.
Dr. Narayan Reddy, State Nodal Officer (South), said entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to set up stalls at the fair. Senior scientist Dr. B.S. Shwetha also addressed the press, emphasizing the fair’s role in demonstrating practical technologies to boost productivity and support prosperous agriculture across the state.
