The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has added left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed to the ODI squad for the ongoing series against the West Indies. Nasum, 30, has taken 16 wickets in 18 ODIs at an economy rate of 4.48 and last featured in an ODI in December 2024.
The inclusion comes after spinners dominated the opening match on the low and slow Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) pitch in Mirpur on Saturday. West Indies left-arm spinner Khary Pierre impressed with figures of 1-19 in his 10 overs, while off-spinner Roston Chase claimed two wickets. Bangladesh’s spin duo, Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam, were pivotal, sharing eight wickets and securing a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The second and third ODIs are scheduled for October 21 and 23 at the same venue. Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead a squad featuring Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumay Sarker, Mohammed Saif Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Hossain, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Hasan Mahmud, and Nasum Ahmed.
With the series underway, Nasum’s experience and proven wicket-taking ability will bolster Bangladesh’s spin attack as they aim to extend their lead and dominate the West Indies in the remaining ODIs. The team management is optimistic that his inclusion will provide depth and variety to the bowling unit on the spin-friendly tracks.
