AIMIM announces 25 candidates for Bihar polls

Patna

As the Bihar Assembly elections heat up, Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has released its list of 25 candidates. The announcement drew attention as the party, known for its Muslim base, has fielded two Hindu candidates this time.

The list, shared on AIMIM’s official X handle, highlights the party’s aim to be the “voice of the weakest and most neglected population” in Bihar. AIMIM had previously gained ground in the Seemanchal region, relying heavily on Muslim voters, but this time it seeks to widen its appeal across communities.

According to the list, AIMIM’s Bihar president Akhtarul Iman will contest from Amour, while the two Hindu candidates — Rana Ranjit Singh and Manoj Kumar Das — will fight from Dhaka and Sikandra, respectively. Other candidates include Adil Hasan from Balrampur, Shamimul Haq from Narkatia, and Anas Salam from Gopalganj. Murshid Alam, Tausif Alam, Ghulam Hasnain, and Shams Aagaz are among others contesting from various constituencies.

The list also features Naseema Khatoon from Nawada, Rashid Khalil Ansari from Madhubani, Mohammad Jalal from Darbhanga Rural, and Sarwar Alam from Kochadhaman. AIMIM is contesting the elections in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party and the Janata Party.

Akhtarul Iman said the alliance represents Dalits, minorities, backward, and deprived sections and will continue to fight for their rights. The Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases — November 6 and 11 — with counting scheduled for November 14.
