U Mumba bounces back strongly in Chennai leg, eyes PKL title contention

Mumbai
Bouncing back from early setbacks, U Mumba showcased disciplined and dominant performances in the Chennai leg of Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), reestablishing themselves as serious contenders for this season’s title.

The franchise began the Chennai-leg with a commanding 42-24 victory over Tamil Thalaivas, highlighted by raider Sandeep Kumar’s third consecutive Super 10 and defensive heroics from Lokesh and captain Sunil Kumar, who each recorded High Fives. Ajit Chouhan’s return from injury added valuable depth and versatility, setting a winning tone for the leg.

U Mumba carried the momentum into their next match, defeating Gujarat Titans 40-25. Sandeep again led the charge with 16 raid points for another Super 10, while Sunil Kumar marshalled the defence with seven tackle points, complemented by Rinku earning a High Five. The display of fitness, coordination, and team unity underscored U Mumba’s aggressive approach and reinforced their status as strong playoff contenders.

Reflecting on his performance, Sandeep Kumar said in the post-match press conference, The support from my team, captain, and coach allows me to raid without worry. Even if I get caught, they encourage me to keep raiding boldly, and that’s why I can give my best.

Facing arch-rivals Puneri Paltan in the Maharashtra Derby, U Mumba encountered a challenge, losing 27-37 in a tightly contested match. The setback, however, has strengthened the team’s determination as they focus on cohesion and strategic execution ahead of crucial fixtures.

Officials and fans alike note that U Mumba’s resurgence in Chennai signals a renewed drive and tactical maturity, positioning them as one of the frontrunners in the race for the PKL Season 12 crown.
