Seven-year-old student burned to death in Kodagu school fire

Madikeri

Tragedy struck a charitable school in Kodagu district early Thursday when a seven-year-old boy was burned to death in a fire suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. The incident occurred around 4 am at Har Mandir School in Katakeri, Madikeri taluk.

The victim, identified as Pushpak, a second-grade student and resident of Chettimani village, was the son of a farmer. Although all 53 hostel students and staff were safely evacuated, Pushpak could not escape the flames and was charred to death.

Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja and other officials visited the site, assuring a thorough investigation and compensation for the family. Preliminary reports indicate an electrical short circuit as the likely cause. The school authorities have promised full support to the grieving family.
