DyCM’s overnight clearance of Jollywood lockout sparks stir

Jollywood Studios was sealed by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board over regulatory concerns

Ramanagara

Tensions flared at Jollywood Studios and Adventures Park in Ramanagara after the lockout of the home of popular ‘Bigg Boss’ reality show was cleared overnight, prompting protests from local Kannadapal organisations and political leaders.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s involvement drew particular criticism, with some accusing him of bypassing regulations.

On Thursday, protesters gathered outside the Jollywood Studios, shouting slogans and attempting to enter the premises. Several women climbed the park’s gates before police intervened, taking the leaders and participants into custody and escorting them away from the scene.

The controversy centers on adherence to rules. The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board had ordered the locking of the premises in response to regulatory concerns. However, Shivakumar’s intervention to clear the lockout overnight has been criticised as undermining the authority of the board.

Protesters raised questions over whether proper notice was given to the Deputy Chief Minister before the clearance, pointing to the sudden police action at around 2:30 pm to reopen the studio. Local leaders emphasized that while government holidays were ongoing, the procedures for compliance and public accountability should not be bypassed.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between regulatory enforcement and political authority in the district. Observers noted that such disputes can impact not only administrative credibility but also public trust in government oversight mechanisms.
