Newly-married woman takes own life over marital harassment
Chikkaballapur
A 25-year-old newly-married woman has died by suicide in Chikkaballapur, just six months after her wedding, leaving the local community in shock.
KN Jayashree, a resident of Kondavalahalli village in Gudibande taluk, reportedly took the extreme step after enduring repeated harassment from her husband, authorities said.
Jayashree had married Chandrashekhar, a native of Shidlaghatta, six months ago. Sources indicate that Chandrashekhar was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship with another young woman and frequently communicated with her on his mobile phone. When Jayashree confronted him about his behaviour, she reportedly faced harassment and emotional distress.
According to police reports, distraught over her husband’s conduct, Jayashree wrote a suicide note and set herself on fire, leading to her death. Local authorities and police officers rushed to the scene after receiving emergency calls and have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
The tragedy has sparked widespread concern in the community about domestic harassment and its impact on mental health, particularly among young married couples. Officials have urged family members and neighbors to report instances of domestic abuse and provide emotional support to those affected.
This incident also highlights the growing need for awareness and intervention measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. Police continue to investigate the case, while community leaders have called for counselling and guidance programs to support families dealing with marital and relational conflicts.
