India U-19 dominate Australia to clinch series sweep

Henil Patel’s double strike crippled Australia early as India overcame brief batting hiccups to chase 81 and secure victory.

India U-19 capped off a dominant tour of Australia by clinching a 2-0 series sweep with a commanding seven-wicket win in the second and final Youth Test on Wednesday.

Resuming the second day at 114 for seven, India U-19 were bowled out for 171, earning a crucial 36-run lead after restricting the hosts to 135 in their first innings. Australia’s batting woes continued in the second innings as they folded for just 119, undone once again by India’s disciplined pace attack.

Fast bowler Henil Patel struck early, dismissing Simon Budge and Zed Hollick in consecutive deliveries to reduce Australia to 0 for 2. From that point, India never relinquished control, with the home side struggling to find answers against the visitors’ accuracy and aggression.

Set a modest 81-run target, India’s chase got off to a shaky start as openers Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi fell cheaply due to over-aggression on a tricky surface. Suryavanshi, the youngest IPL centurion at just 14, fell attempting a big shot off the very first ball he faced, while captain Mhatre played one onto his stumps soon after.

Despite the early setbacks, Vedant Trivedi’s unbeaten 33 ensured India crossed the line comfortably in 12.2 overs.

Having already swept the three-match Youth ODI series, India’s young guns finished their Australian tour with a clean sweep across formats — a testament to their superior skill, composure, and depth in talent.
