515 Army Base Workshop (ABW), representing IHQ of MoD (Army)/ Directorate General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IndyASTRA Technologies Pvt Ltd to fast-track AI-enabled drone capabilities for Indian Army land systems. The collaboration is part of the broader Atmanirbharta vision and will be coordinated through 515 ABW.
The MoU focuses on technology infusion in drone manufacturing, emphasizing AI-enabled Flight Control Systems (FCS) and a Standard Drone Operating Platform (SDOP). IndyASTRA will provide technical consultancy for comprehensive evaluation of drone technologies, including subsystem reviews, integration readiness, and compliance with Army standards.
Under the agreement, 515 ABW will route need-based requests for manufacturing trials, validation, and certification to IndyASTRA, with emphasis on interoperability, safety, and adherence to operational standards.
The partnership is expected to strengthen indigenous capabilities, reduce import dependence for critical unmanned systems, and shorten the time-to-field for AI-enabled drone solutions supporting Army operations. The model is also designed to be replicable for future programs and related subsystems. Overall, the initiative enhances operational readiness while promoting self-reliance in defence technology.
