Thunderstorms, rain likely across Karnataka this week

Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Meteorological Department has warned that most districts across the state are likely to receive rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the week due to a weather system named ‘Shakti’ forming over the northern Arabian Sea.

As of now, the system is around 470 km west of Dwarka and 470 km west-southwest of Nalaiya. It is expected to move northwestward on Sunday (Oct 5) and then shift northeastward by Monday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that Shakti will weaken at sea and not make landfall, posing minimal impact to land regions.

Between October 5 and 11, several districts — including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Hassan, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Tumakuru, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, and Belagavi — are expected to receive intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms. Some areas may also experience strong gusty winds.

Bengaluru and nearby areas will see cloudy skies and moderate rain. The southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw by October 15, making way for the northeast monsoon.

Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, especially during heavy showers and windy periods, and to follow updates from official weather agencies.
