The government has generated Rs 3,296.71 crore from e-waste and scrap disposal, while freeing over 696.27 lakh sq. ft. of office space for productive use in the last four years, said Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
Speaking at the launch of “Special Swachhta Campaign 5.0” at Nehru Park, Delhi, Dr. Singh highlighted the campaign’s success in improving governance and public services. He noted that over 137.86 lakh old files were weeded out and 12.04 lakh cleanliness sites cleaned in earlier phases.
Dr. Singh praised the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and other departments for their role. He took part in plantation drives and file clearing activities at the event.
Calling the campaign a “unique success story of governance in Independent India,” Dr. Singh said the next phase, starting October 2, will focus on institutionalizing cleanliness drives, streamlining administrative work, and improving government office efficiency.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for turning cleanliness into a nationwide movement, noting that Modi’s Red Fort speech transformed Swachhata into a widespread behavioral change.
Dr. Singh also honored “Safai Mitras” by distributing safety kits and sweets, recognizing their vital role on the ground.
Various ministries have set ambitious targets for the campaign’s next phase, including reviewing 6.9 lakh public grievances, 26.9 lakh physical files, and 5.2 lakh e-files.
Additionally, the National Archives of India will open an exhibition on October 10 called “Sushasan aur Abhilekh,” displaying valuable historical records accessed during earlier campaigns.
The campaign continues to promote cleanliness, transparency, efficiency, and public participation, carrying forward Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy of civic responsibility and collective action.
