Women thieves busted, gold recovered

CHIKKABALLAPUR

Police in Chintamani have arrested a gang of burqa-clad women in connection with a gold jewellery theft case reported last year, recovering ornaments worth Rs 7 lakh. The gang, consisting of five women, had stolen a box containing 78 grams of gold earrings from Saundarya Fashion and Jewellers in Chintamani. The theft, captured on the store’s CCTV camera, helped authorities identify and track down the culprits.

The arrested women—Nagma, Zareena, Nageena, Naveena, and Mubeena—are residents of Kolar and are reportedly involved in beedi rolling work. Police investigations revealed that the gang frequently travelled using buses and had assistance from an autorickshaw driver to move around during their criminal activities.

Police Superintendent Kushal Chowksey stated, “On July 21 last year, a complaint was registered after five burqa-clad women entered the store and stole a box of earrings by diverting attention. After a year-long investigation, we have apprehended the women and recovered 70 grams of the stolen jewellery.” The police added that the gang had attempted another theft in Bangarpet in August but were caught before executing the crime. The recovered gold has been returned to the shop owner.

This case highlights the persistence of law enforcement in tracking down offenders even after a long period, as well as the increasing sophistication of criminal gangs who disguise themselves to commit thefts. Authorities have urged shopkeepers and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately to prevent similar incidents. The successful recovery of the stolen jewellery brings relief to the victims and serves as a warning to criminal networks operating in the region.
