At least 10 people were killed and over 30 others injured on Tuesday when a powerful bomb exploded near the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province. Officials said the blast tore through a busy street on Zarghoon Road, striking both security personnel and civilians in the vicinity.

Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar confirmed the casualties, stating that 32 people were injured and rushed to nearby medical facilities. Health Secretary Mujeebur Rehman announced an emergency at the Quetta Civil Hospital, Balochistan Medical College Hospital, and the Trauma Centre to provide immediate treatment to the wounded. Television footage showed debris scattered across the street as rescue teams battled to assist victims and clear the site.

No group immediately claimed responsibility, but Baloch insurgents are known to target security forces and government projects in the mineral-rich province. Balochistan shares borders with Iran and Afghanistan and has long grappled with separatist violence and attacks on infrastructure linked to the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly act of terrorism.” He vowed that the sacrifices of civilians and security personnel “will not go in vain” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the province. Security in Quetta has been tightened as investigators begin a probe into the latest act of violence threatening Pakistan’s volatile southwest.
