Bengaluru woman brutally assaulted, family arrested

In a shocking and inhumane incident at Narayanpura in Anekal town, a woman was brutally assaulted by her husband and in-laws, leaving the local community in distress.

The victim, identified as Srilaja, was dragged by her hair, kicked, and severely beaten in public by her husband Arun, mother-in-law Prabhavathi, and father-in-law Chaudappa. The assault reportedly escalated over disputes related to dowry and ongoing harassment by the husband’s family.

Srilaja, who married Arun five years ago, has a four-year-old daughter. Despite multiple attempts for reconciliation, including a panchayat in the presence of local elders, the harassment continued. The incident reportedly occurred shortly after Srilaja returned from her parental home.

According to reports, she was attacked on the road leading to her residence, with family members physically assaulting her in a violent manner.

Local authorities have confirmed that a case has been registered at the Anekal police station. Police are investigating the matter and have initiated action against the accused. This incident has raised serious concerns regarding domestic violence and dowry-related harassment in the state.

Legal experts emphasized that cases of domestic abuse, particularly involving dowry demands, will be dealt with under stringent provisions of the law, including potential charges of murder or grievous hurt if the victim’s life is endangered.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with citizens demanding justice for Srilaja and stricter enforcement of laws protecting women from domestic violence. Police continue to gather evidence and question witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
