Bengaluru caste census survey to begin in Oct

The Caste Census Survey is set to commence in Bengaluru from October 3, said Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao.

The survey is part of a broader social and educational assessment being conducted across the city to collect accurate demographic and community data.

Speaking about the survey, Rao said that staff training for the exercise is currently underway and will be completed by October 3. Once training concludes, enumerators will begin visiting households across Bengaluru to record relevant data. The survey is expected to provide critical insights into the city’s social composition and inform policy decisions related to education, social welfare, and development programs. Initially, the survey was delayed by a week due to a shortage of trained personnel.

While the caste census has already been conducted in other parts of Karnataka starting September 22, Bengaluru’s survey will run from October 3 to October 7. Officials have emphasized that proper coordination and adherence to timelines are essential to ensure that all areas of the city are covered comprehensively.

Authorities have also highlighted the importance of citizen cooperation in ensuring the survey’s success. Residents are urged to provide accurate information to the enumerators, which will help create a reliable database for future planning. The GBA has assured that data confidentiality will be strictly maintained, and the results will be used solely for administrative and developmental purposes. With preparations in full swing, the upcoming survey marks a significant step toward understanding Bengaluru’s diverse population and planning initiatives that address the city’s evolving social and educational needs.
