The Ramakshetriya Seva Sangha (R) organised an Abhinandana Samarambha felicitation programme at Palemar Garden Hall, Morgans Gate, on Sunday, recognising the contributions of eminent doctors and a sportsperson from Dakshina Kannada.
The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries. Former Minister J. Krishna Palemar presided, while the chief guests included MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath, and Nitte University Pro-Chancellor Dr Shantharam Shetty. The pontiff of Subrahmanya Matha was also present.
Four achievers were honoured: Dr H. Prabhakar, cardiologist at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, recipient of state and district awards; Dr Sadananda Poojary, senior specialist at Government Wenlock Hospital; Dr M. Annayya Kulal of Ullal, recipient of the B.C. Roy National Award for community service; and Ms. Nagashree Ganesh Sherugar, international-level weightlifter and powerlifter.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Vedavyas Kamath lauded the role of doctors in saving lives and said their service brought glory to Tulunadu. The Subrahmanya Matha seer remarked that serving society is equivalent to serving God, while Dr Shantharam Shetty praised Krishna Palemar for recognising achievers from a small community and recalled the contributions of the awardees to society.
In his presidential address, Krishna Palemar said honouring achievers was aimed at encouraging community pride and service. He noted that doctors’ contributions to society were invaluable and expressed hope that more professionals from the Ramakshetriya community would enter the medical field in the future.
The programme also included introductory remarks by Yogish Kumar Jeppur, welcome by Pradeep Palemar and family, and a vote of thanks by Shirley Rego.
