Anushka wins second gold at ISSF Junior World Cup

Indian shooter Anushka Thokur shone again at the ISSF Junior World Cup, clinching gold in the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Dr Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Sunday.

Anushka produced a fine score of 461.0 to secure the top spot. She finished ahead of Individual Neutral Athletes Anastasiia Sorikina, who took silver with 454.9, and Mariia Kruglova, who claimed bronze with 444.0. This marked Anushka’s second gold medal of the competition, after her earlier triumph in the 50m rifle prone event.

Other Indian participants in the same event also put up creditable performances. Mahit Sandhi managed a fifth-place finish with 422.7, while Prachi Gaikwad ended seventh, scoring 399.3.

In the junior men’s competition, Adriyan Karmakar added to India’s medal tally by winning silver in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions. He recorded a score of 454.8, narrowly missing gold to Dmitrii Pimenov, a neutral competitor, who secured first place with 459.9. Kamil Nuriakhmetov completed the podium with 441.0 for bronze.

India’s other shooters also showed promise in the men’s event. Vedant Nitin Waghmare scored 420.9 to finish fifth, while Sami Ullah Khan ended seventh with 393.0.

With these latest medals, India strengthened its position at the top of the standings in the Junior World Cup. The Indian team now has four gold, six silver, and three bronze medals in the ongoing competition, highlighting the nation’s growing depth and strength in shooting at the junior level.
