Ministers Neglect Flood Victims Amid Elections, Says Minister Kadadi

Belagavi

People in the district are facing severe distress due to floods and heavy rains, yet both district ministers are focusing on elections instead of assisting those affected, alleged Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, he said that over 1 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged.

Kadadi criticized District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi for prioritizing the Rural Electricity Cooperative Society elections and Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar for focusing on the Malaprabha Cooperative Sugar Factory elections, instead of visiting flood-hit areas and listening to people’s grievances.

He further alleged that the state government, which should have provided relief and support, has fallen behind in initiatives like the caste and socio-educational survey. Despite central government approval, the authorities are denying farmers fair access to centers for selling urad, uddu, and sunflower under the support price scheme.

MLA Abhaya Patil added that during the BJP government’s tenure, Rs 25 lakh compensation was provided to families who lost homes due to floods, while the current Congress government has announced much lower compensation, leaving many displaced citizens struggling on the streets.
