Centre approves Bengaluru-Mumbai superfast train

The Ministry of Railways has approved a new superfast train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, fulfilling a demand of over 30 years, announced MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday. The announcement is expected to benefit millions of daily commuters, business travelers, and families traveling between the two major economic hubs.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the new service will commence soon. “Bengaluru and Mumbai are key economic centers, and expansion of station capacities now makes this service possible,” he said. Currently, the only rail option between the cities is the Udyan Express, which takes over 24 hours to complete the journey.

“This long-standing demand has remained unfulfilled for three decades. Last year alone, over 26 lakh passengers traveled between the two cities by air,” said Surya, emphasizing that the new train will provide a more affordable and convenient alternative to air and bus travel.

Surya credited the achievement to persistent efforts over the past four years in Parliament, Public Accounts Committee meetings, and consultations with senior railway officials. Vaishnaw praised his dedication, stating, “I am delighted with Tejasvi Surya’s continuous efforts for this superfast train. He has always fought for Bengaluru’s people.”

The new service is expected to reduce travel congestion, enhance connectivity between the two cities, and strengthen economic and social ties. Surya also expressed gratitude on behalf of Karnataka residents to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister Vaishnaw, and Railway Minister of State V. Somanna for supporting the initiative, which marks a milestone in improving India’s intercity rail connectivity.
