Army holds Yoga training for Arunachal soldiers

Tough Terrain Training

New Delhi

The Indian Army’s Spear Corps has completed a two-week Yoga training programme for soldiers at Along in Arunachal Pradesh. The sessions, held from September 15 to 27, were designed to improve both physical and mental strength of troops serving in tough terrain and weather.

Under the guidance of trained instructors, the programme combined posture exercises, breathing techniques, and meditation practices. These methods helped soldiers improve stamina, focus, and emotional balance. Army officials said the training also gave practical tools to handle stress, recover from fatigue, and stay prepared for demanding duties.

The initiative went beyond physical fitness, aiming to promote calmness of mind, discipline, and inner strength—qualities considered vital for soldiers working under pressure. According to the Defence PRO, “Yoga aligns with the ethos of discipline and self-control at the heart of soldiering. It helps troops maintain composure in adversity and acts as a force multiplier.”

Soldiers showed great enthusiasm during the training, which highlighted the growing relevance of Yoga in modern military life. The Army sees the practice not only as a health activity but also as a means to support mental resilience and spiritual growth.

Officials said the programme reflects the Army’s commitment to holistic fitness and supports India’s broader vision of making Yoga a way of life. By blending tradition with training, the Spear Corps aims to prepare its soldiers as strong defenders of the nation and as balanced individuals able to meet every challenge with courage and calm.
