10 Rescued, 47 Houses Damaged in Bhima River Floods

Heavy rains over the past two days have severely disrupted life across Vijayapura district. Firefighters rescued more than 10 people, including three pregnant women, two boys, and a baby, stranded in the Bhima River floodwaters in Shambewad village of Alamela taluk using boats.

Authorities have opened 14 care centers in Arjunagi BK, Baragudi, Chikka Manura, Hingani, Khedagi, Padanur R.S., Miragi, Alamela Taluk, Thavarkheda, Kumasagi, Tarapur, and Shambhewada, all in Indi Taluk. So far, 654 people, including 152 children from 140 families, have been provided shelter.

Over 47 houses have been damaged due to the heavy rains, including 13 in Kolhara, six in Vijayapura, five in Muddebihal, four each in Basavanbagevadi, Chadchana, Sindagi, and Devara Hipparagi, three in Tikota, two in Talikote, and one each in Babaleshwar and Nidgundi.

Rainwater also entered Shantu Dhanshetty’s ground-floor warehouse on Agarkheda Road in Indi town, damaging chemical fertilizers and medicines worth around Rs 1 crore. The Indi–Agarkheda road remains flooded, blocking traffic.

In neighboring Solapur district, rivers Sina, Kolegaon, Bhima, and Bori are overflowing, causing floods and submerging 431 schools.
