India calls for united global fight against terrorism

Together Against Terror

New York
India on Friday reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and urged the world to unite in combating it in all forms. This was stated by Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs, while delivering India’s National Statement at the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism in New York.

The Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism, established in June 2019, aims to protect human rights and address the needs of terrorism victims. Secretary George underlined India’s consistent stand against cross-border terrorism and stressed that international cooperation is vital to addressing the menace effectively.

Earlier, George spoke at the UN Peacebuilding Commission Ministerial meeting, sharing India’s peacekeeping approach rooted in the civilisational ethos of “the world is one family”. He highlighted the importance of people-centric technology to enhance transparency, trust, and sustainable peace, stressing that peacebuilding should be demand-driven and nationally owned.

George also represented India at the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees Ministerial meeting, affirming India as a reliable partner committed to continued engagement in the region.

Separately, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting, describing terrorism as “a persistent threat to development and peace.” He stressed that those combating terrorism provide a service to the global community and called for no tolerance or accommodation of such acts.

While not naming it directly, Jaishankar’s remarks aligned with India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in May in response to a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
