Bengaluru launches digital traffic alert system
CH NEWS
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Bengaluru has introduced a digital billboard system near Trinity Circle that displays real-time traffic violations of vehicles passing through the signal, aiming to raise awareness and promote adherence to traffic regulations. The system identifies vehicles with expired Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), lapsed insurance, or pending fines, flashing details including registration numbers on large digital displays at prominent junctions.
A recent display at Trinity Circle showed the registration number KA 51 MW 4739, alerting the driver about an expired PUCC. The project, powered by Cars24 in collaboration with CrashfreeIndia, has attracted attention from commuters and sparked discussions online. Motorists have expressed mixed reactions: while some appreciate the initiative as a step toward safer roads, others have voiced concerns over privacy and potential public shaming. Traffic authorities, however, insist the primary goal is to improve compliance and reduce risks caused by uninsured or non-compliant vehicles.
With Bengaluru grappling with rising traffic violations and increasing pollution, officials believe digital alerts can serve as an effective deterrent, encouraging drivers to renew documents promptly. The pilot project at Trinity Circle will be closely monitored, and authorities plan to expand the system to other key junctions across the city if it proves effective. Authorities also emphasized that the system will complement ongoing awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement of traffic rules, ultimately aiming to create a culture of responsible driving and enhance overall road safety in the city.
