Awareness on Cleanliness

‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Campaign Spreads Cleanliness Message

Chitradurga

“The message of cleanliness is being promoted through Shramdaan as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2,” said Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. S. Akash.

He made these remarks after inaugurating the Swachhtotsava, organized jointly by the Gram Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat, Madakaripura Gram Panchayat, and the National Service Scheme Unit of the Government Pre-University College for Girls on Thursday, under the Swachhta Hi Seva–Swachhtaye Seva fortnightly campaign in Madakaripura village.

Steps have been taken to conduct a variety of programs focused on cleanliness across all Gram Panchayats in the district over a two-week period. Dr. Akash stated that the primary objective of the campaign is to strongly reinforce the message of cleanliness.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Planning Officer CS Gayatri said that as part of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan is being implemented nationwide. Areas with large accumulations of garbage have been identified across the district, and efforts are underway to clear waste within Panchayat limits. Plastic waste is being removed from lakes, dams, and wells to make water safe for consumption. Health camps are also being conducted for the cleaners and Gram Panchayat staff, whose efforts are being appreciated and recognized.

She emphasized that cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of Gram Panchayats; the public must also participate. “Unless civic consciousness is awakened among citizens, the sense of ‘My Village, My Gram Panchayat’ will not develop. Such efforts must be repeated until awareness is fully instilled,” she said.

Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Y. Ravikumar, Pennaiah, and Camp Officer of the NSS Unit of the Girls’ Government Pre-University College also addressed the gathering.
