Renowned Kannada Novelist’s Legacy Honoured by Writers, Citizens in Bengaluru
Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao on Thursday paid his last respects to renowned Kannada litterateur Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, who passed away recently. Rao visited the venue where the mortal remains of the celebrated writer were kept for public viewing and offered floral tributes, describing him as a towering figure in Kannada literature.
Dr. Bhyrappa, one of the most widely read and influential novelists of modern Kannada, earned admiration for his bold themes, philosophical depth, and unwavering commitment to truth in his writings. His works, including Parva, Vamshavriksha, Tantu, and Avarana, not only redefined Kannada literature but also sparked important cultural and intellectual debates across the country.
Speaking after offering condolences, Commissioner Rao said the loss of Dr. Bhyrappa is an irreparable void in the literary world. His writing transcended generations and inspired millions. He will be remembered as a fearless thinker and an extraordinary storyteller who gave Kannada literature a global identity, Rao remarked.
Several writers, admirers, and citizens also gathered to bid farewell, reflecting the profound influence Dr. Bhyrappa had on society. The atmosphere was solemn, as people from different walks of life joined together to honor the memory of the iconic writer. Authorities confirmed that arrangements had been made to allow the public to pay homage before the final rites. With the passing of Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, Karnataka has lost one of its most celebrated cultural voices, leaving behind a legacy of timeless literature.
