Christ (Deemed to be University) on Sept. 23 hosted an inspiring session titled Unveiling the Universe: An Alumni Legacy, aimed at fostering scientific curiosity and innovation among students. Organized by the Department of Physics and Electronics in collaboration with the Physics Association and the Centre of Excellence in Astronomy and Astrophysics, the event brought together distinguished alumni and students for an engaging discussion on space exploration.
Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, decorated fighter pilot of the Indian Air Force and astronaut with ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission, motivated students by highlighting the importance of curiosity, perseverance, and hands-on learning. Speaking on the theme of synergistic optimism, he encouraged students to transform their curiosity into practical skills and said, I see an astronaut in everyone, emphasizing that exploration begins with a mindset. Prof. Aswin Sekhar FRAS, India’s first professional meteor scientist and an alumnus of Christ University, reinforced this vision by donating a telescope to the department, enhancing opportunities for student-led discovery and research. His address highlighted the value of inclusive education and experiential learning in shaping future scientists.
The session was attended by Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Jose C C, Associate Dean Dr. Deepthi Das, and Head of Department Prof. Manoj B, along with faculty and students of the Department of Physics and Electronics. The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sreeja Kartha. The interactive event left participants motivated and inspired, instilling a renewed passion for space science, scientific exploration, and innovation, while celebrating the legacy of alumni who continue to push the boundaries of knowledge and discovery.
