Siddaramaiah seeks Wipro campus traffic relief

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Wipro founder-chairman Azim Premji, seeking the company’s support to ease traffic congestion along Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR). The request involves allowing limited vehicular movement through the Wipro campus, particularly near the Iblur junction, which has been identified as a major bottleneck during peak hours.

According to the Chief Minister, traffic congestion along this stretch has significantly affected mobility, productivity, and the overall quality of urban life in the city. Citing expert estimates, Siddaramaiah stated that permitting partial access through the company campus could reduce congestion by up to 30 percent, offering a more efficient commute for thousands of residents.

Highlighting the broader benefits of the initiative, Siddaramaiah noted that easing traffic bottlenecks would enhance the commuting experience, reduce travel time, and contribute to making Bengaluru a more livable and sustainable city. He urged Wipro to engage with government officials to explore feasible options for implementation while maintaining campus security and operational requirements.

The proposal comes amid ongoing efforts by civic authorities and urban planners to address persistent traffic challenges across Bengaluru, especially along critical corridors of the ORR. Officials believe that public-private collaboration, such as the one suggested, could provide immediate relief to commuters while long-term infrastructure improvements continue. The Chief Minister’s letter reflects a proactive approach to urban mobility, emphasizing cooperation between the government and corporate stakeholders to deliver practical solutions that improve the city’s traffic ecosystem.
