13 Doctors Reinstated at Haveri District Hospital

Thirteen doctors reinstated to Haveri District Hospital to address staffing shortages and restore normal healthcare services.

Haveri

Thirteen doctors who had voluntarily resigned from Haveri College of Medical Sciences (HIMS) and the District Hospital and reported to the State Commissionerate have now been reinstated to their district duties. The doctors’ absence had created a panic among patients, as a large number of people had visited the hospital to receive treatment.

The district hospital’s administration is now under HIMS, with professors from the institute actively assisting in patient care. Earlier, the state government had ordered the doctors—who had served in the same positions for three or more years—to resign voluntarily and report to the Commissionerate. The move was intended to manage staffing rotations, but it temporarily exacerbated the shortage of medical personnel.

Health department officials prioritized addressing the shortage, and all 13 doctors have now been relieved from their duties at the Commissionerate and redeployed to HIMS and the district hospital. The doctors are gradually resuming their work.

As news of their return spread, patients flocked to the hospital on Monday, resulting in long queues both inside and outside the premises. Pregnant women, mothers with children, and other patients patiently waited for tickets, consultations, and various tests.

During the doctors’ absence, essential services—including surgeries—had been disrupted, with some patients being referred to other hospitals. Their reinstatement is expected to restore normal operations and improve healthcare access for the residents of Haveri.

The health department has also made arrangements to manage the patient flow efficiently and ensure smooth operations while maintaining social distancing in the crowded hospital premises.
