Farmers Complain of Delays, MESCOM Urged to ActChikkamagalur

Farmers have raised concerns over delayed replacement of burnt transformers (TCs), improper work by powermen, and old electrical wires falling to the ground. Many farmers said the shortage of vehicles for transporting TCs is worsening the situation. These issues were highlighted during a public relations meeting held at the MESCOM subdivision office in Tarikere town, attended by senior officials.

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh State General Secretary Parameshwarappa stated that MESCOM staff are not following the rule to repair and return burnt TCs within 72 hours. Even when farmers bring repaired TCs at their own expense, officials fail to install them, and vehicles carrying TCs often take weeks to arrive.

Farmer Santosh from Doranalu reported that old electric wires are falling apart, and repeated requests for replacement have gone unheeded. He also noted that powermen often arrive only at 10 a.m., regardless of the urgency.

Superintendent Engineer Manjunath instructed officials that burnt TCs should not be stored in Birur and must be distributed to farmers immediately. Residents near Anjaneyaswamy Temple in Machenahalli complained of voltage fluctuations damaging household electronics and requested a separate TC installation.

The meeting was attended by farmer leaders Sunnadahalli Chandappa, Hosalli Thandyada Ramesh Nayak, Sunil, Executive Engineer Lokesh, Assistant Executive Engineer Manjunath, Assistant Engineer Ajay, and others.
