“Dairy farming is a boon for farmers, and farmers should adopt dairy farming along with agriculture, as dairy farming will help improve the economic condition of farmers,” advised MLA Lakshman Savadi.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Athani Rural Milk Producers’ Cooperative (BMC) unit in the town. “This association was inaugurated with the good intention of ensuring that rural farmers get a fair price for their milk. Starting an organization is easy, but building and growing it is a difficult task. He said that the hard work, honesty and vision of the organizers are very important for the association to make progress,” he said.
He said that 40 to 60 thousand liters of milk are being produced daily in Athani taluk, and with increased irrigation facilities, 1 lakh liters of milk can be produced in the coming days. Savadi suggested that the KMF management board should fix separate prices for buffalo and cow milk and collect them, which will provide more income to farmers producing buffalo milk.
