Alyssa Healy confident ahead of ODI World Cup

New Delhi

Australia captain Alyssa Healy says her team is in a “great spot” ahead of their title defense at the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, which begins on September 30. The reigning champions will open their campaign against New Zealand in Indore on October 1.

Writing in her ICC column, Healy shared her excitement: “We’ve had time to prepare through camps, Australia A games, and domestic cricket. We feel ready and confident.”

Australia recently beat India 2-1 in a hard-fought ODI series, including a record 412-run total in the final game. Though Healy didn’t score big, she valued the match time after recovering from foot and knee injuries over the past year. “Playing six games in quick time was a big step for me,” she said.

The team welcomes back spinner Sophie Molineux, who has recovered from knee surgery, and is one of five players making their 50-over World Cup debut. Healy praised the balance of youth and experience in the squad.

Australia will also play matches in Sri Lanka and face different conditions, but Healy is confident. “It’s a tough tournament where every game matters. We’re ready for the challenge and can’t wait to get started,” she said.
