Chikkaballapur Information Commissioner Rajshekhar S. stated that since April 10, 777 RTI applications were filed, 9,837 resolved, with 772 pending across multiple departments, which are being actively addressed.

Karnataka Chief Information Commissioner Rudranna Hartikote announced that district-level RTI (Right to Information) adalats will be held from November to quickly clear pending applications and aim to reduce the backlog to zero. Speaking at a press conference at the District Panchayat Hall, he emphasized the commission’s commitment to ensuring timely delivery of information to citizens.
Over the past seven months, the state commission had about 54,000 pending RTI applications. So far, 12,896 have been resolved, leaving 41,104 pending. The upcoming adalats aim to address these cases promptly, with a target to complete them by the next Kannada Rajyotsava. Currently, approximately 1,500 new applications are received each month, and these will also be processed on time to improve transparency in governance.
The commission has imposed fines exceeding ₹10 crore on 10,699 public information officers for failing to provide information. Out of these, 2,119 officers have paid fines totaling ₹2.45 crore, while letters have been sent to others for payment.

During the session, officials received guidance on timely disposal of applications, consequences of delays, and penalties for non-compliance. They were also instructed to use the commission’s website for reference and study RTI regulations. Key district-level officers, including the Collector, Deputy Commissioner, and departmental staff, participated in the training to ensure effective implementation of the RTI process.
