Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed concern over the challenges faced by marginalized communities. Speaking at the Taluk Kuruba Sangha’s silver jubilee and the state-level Kanakotsava event, he noted that most people imprisoned or killed in Dakshina Kannada and Mangalore in the name of religion belong to backward castes. He questioned how long children from these communities will continue to suffer under such circumstances.

Siddaramaiah highlighted that those benefiting from caste-based inequalities oppose social change. They prevent children from marginalized communities from advancing in education or economic opportunities, effectively sacrificing them in the name of religion. He urged people not to follow those who exploit them.

Citing Ambedkar’s mantra of “Education – Organization – Struggle,” the CM encouraged marginalized groups to pursue education, organize collectively, and fight for their rights. He emphasized that equality cannot be achieved while caste systems exist, and education combined with strong organization is the key.

He also stressed that true education should be scientific, progressive, and thoughtful, pointing out that even many professionals today continue caste practices that hinder society’s progress. Siddaramaiah praised the constitutional values of fraternity, equality, and religious tolerance as essential tools for marginalized communities.

Appreciating the invitation of Booker Prize-winning author Banu Mustaq to the state Dasara celebrations, he highlighted the Supreme Court’s role in upholding constitutional principles. He urged active participation in the caste census, asking Kuruba community members to record simply “Kuruba” in the caste column. The CM also highlighted Karnataka’s welfare programs, noting that the state leads the nation in per capita income growth. Ministers, legislators, former ministers, and community leaders attended the event.
