Devaraj Arasu’s legacy celebrated in Ramnagara

The 110th birth anniversary of D. Devaraj Arasu, a champion of backward class development, was celebrated on Friday at the Junior College grounds in Ramnagara, organized jointly by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Backward Classes Welfare Department, and Kannada and Culture Department.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar hailed Arasu’s contributions, highlighting his role in implementing land reforms, ensuring ownership for marginal farmers, promoting bank nationalization, and introducing housing and pension schemes for the underprivileged. Devaraj Arasu set an example for everyone by empowering the poor, providing social justice, and enabling equitable opportunities across all communities, he said.

The celebrations includeincludeed a grand procession from Kempagowda Circle to the Junior College grounds, featuring participation from local cultural groups. Awards in Arasu’s name were presented to individuals for their contributions to society, and eligible beneficiaries received government welfare benefits during the ceremony.

Several dignitaries attended, including state guarantee scheme committee chairman H.M. Revanth, former Legislative Council speakers Sudarshan, GBA chairman Nataraju Ganakal, Ramnagar Urban Development Authority chairman Chetan Kumar, and local community leaders. Political representatives, including KPCC district president S. Gangadhar and OBC state vice president Pavithra R. Prabhakar Reddy, were also present. The event underscored Arasu’s lifelong commitment to economic, social, and educational upliftment, emphasizing that his initiatives in housing, land distribution, and social welfare continue to inspire development and equality for backward communities in Karnataka.
