The state’s first transit-oriented development (TOD) project at Navanagar is progressing rapidly. Taken up by the BRTS company at a cost of Rs 3 crore, the work began in 2024 and is expected to be completed by Dec. The project includes a transit plaza, a children’s park with play equipment, and a specially designed traffic park to educate children about signals and traffic signs. According to HD-BRTS, the project was planned in 2019. Due to changes in the plan and other issues, the project got delayed. The design was changed several times, and now the project work is ongoing.
The foundation stone was laid by MLA Arvind Bellad on January 20. The development is taking place next to the BRTS bus station at Navanagar. This location is located between Hubballi and Dharwad. The residents of Navanagar, Amaragol, Amar CL Colony, and surrounding areas, as well as the public, can enjoy the facilities.
HD-BRTS General Manager R Gudaraddi stated that the project was delayed earlier due to some changes, but now it is moving fast. Neighbourhood street development with landscaping, comfortable seating arrangements with shade, and a food court zone are also part of this project.
The traffic park for children will be developed, and awareness will be created regarding signal and traffic management. The development is being carried out at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
HDMC ward No. 23 Corporator Manjunath Burli said that the development is being carried out on the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation road. TOD integrates land use and transport planning and aims to develop planned sustainable urban growth centres, having walkable and liveable communes with high-density mixed land use. People can access open green and public spaces.
