Australia fined for slow over-rate in Women’s ODI

New Chandigarh

Australia’s women’s cricket team was fined 10 percent of their match fees for a slow over-rate during the second ODI against India on Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Friday. After considering time allowances, Australia fell two overs short of the required rate.

The penalty was imposed by match referee G.S. Lakshmi from the Emirates ICC International Panel. Umpires Vrinda Rathi, Janani Narayanan, Lauren Agenbag, and Gayathri Venugopalan all confirmed the slow over-rate. Australian captain Alyssa Healy admitted the mistake and accepted the fine, so no formal hearing was needed.

According to ICC rules, teams are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over they fail to bowl within the allotted time.

India won the second ODI by 102 runs, leveling the three-match series 1-1. The victory was powered by centurion Smriti Mandhana and key bowler Kranti Gaud, marking India’s first ODI win against Australia at home since 2007.

The series decider will take place on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, just days before the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 begins in India and Sri Lanka.
