Yoga guru arrested for assaulting minor

Authorities Urge Vigilance and Accountability in Youth Institutions

The Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police have arrested yoga guru Niranjana Murthy on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl, officials confirmed on Thursday. The accused, who was running a yoga training center in the area, allegedly exploited the trust of the victim by making false promises about her future in the field. According to police sources, the minor used to attend regular classes at Murthy’s yoga center. Exploiting his position as an instructor, Murthy reportedly assured the girl that he would help her gain international recognition in yoga and secure a government job. Under this pretext, he is accused of sexually harassing her.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police Station. The accused initially absconded after the case was filed, prompting an intensified search by the authorities. Police teams tracked him down earlier this week and formally placed him under arrest.

Investigating officers stated that Murthy had been evading arrest for several days but was ultimately apprehended based on credible leads. He has been taken into custody for questioning, and further investigations are underway to determine whether additional victims were involved or if similar offenses occurred at his center. Police officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice in cases involving crimes against children. The arrest has drawn attention to the urgent need for vigilance in institutions that work with minors, underscoring the importance of accountability and strict monitoring.
