Prime Video Ends ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ with Film

Prime Video has confirmed that its popular young adult drama The Summer I Turned Pretty will wrap up with a feature film written and directed by author Jenny Han, who created the original book trilogy. The announcement was made during the red carpet event for the season three finale in Paris. While plot details remain secret, Han explained that the film format was the best way to give the lead character Belly’s story a meaningful conclusion.

Since debuting in 2022, the series has become a global hit, connecting with audiences through its mix of nostalgia, romance, and heartfelt coming-of-age themes. The story follows Belly and her emotional journey caught in a love triangle with two brothers, while also exploring friendship, family bonds, and the bittersweet experiences of first love.

Starring Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno, the series quickly rose to prominence, with the third season attracting 25 million viewers worldwide in its first week. It also ranked as one of Prime Video’s top returning seasons.

Han, who also co-showruns the series, said she was thankful to Prime Video for allowing her to share this final chapter with fans. Alongside Sarah Kucserka, she led season three as showrunner and executive producer.

The franchise’s success adds to Han’s growing influence in young adult storytelling, following her acclaimed To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, which was adapted into a successful Netflix film series and its spinoff XO, Kitty.
