Did Deepika Padukone Leave ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Over Commitments

Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has exited another major project, this time the sequel to her blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD. On Thursday, production house Vyjayanthi Movies released an official note on X (formerly Twitter) confirming her departure. The statement said they were unable to find a partnership and emphasized that a film of this scale requires complete commitment. While wishing her well, the message hinted at creative or professional differences.

This marks Deepika’s second high-profile exit in a short span. Earlier, she stepped away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit with Prabhas. Reports suggested disagreements over remuneration, working hours, and language requirements. Media also claimed she requested shorter shooting schedules after becoming a mother. Following her exit, Vanga posted a sharp note online, accusing her of breaching trust and engaging in dirty PR games. Eventually, Triptii Dimri replaced her in the film.

Deepika’s departure from Kalki has reignited discussions about actors’ demands in the industry. Rumors have circulated about certain star couples making excessive requests for logistics, vanity vans, and entourage costs, putting extra strain on producers. Though no names were directly mentioned, speculation has linked these stories to Deepika and Ranveer Singh. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta even recalled an incident where a Bollywood star showed up for a South project with six vans, leaving producers with massive unexpected bills.

Industry veterans like Aamir Khan have also warned that such unrealistic demands increase risks for producers and can turn big-budget films into potential losses.
