Sabalenka withdraws from China Open with injury

Beijing

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has pulled out of the upcoming China Open due to a minor injury she picked up after winning the US Open. The 2025 China Open is scheduled to run from September 24 to October 5 in Beijing.

Sabalenka, who won her second straight US Open title this year, shared the news in a statement. “I’m sad to withdraw after a small injury following the US Open. I want to be fully healthy for the rest of the season. I look forward to seeing my fans in China next year,” she said.

The Belarusian star had reached the quarterfinals in last year’s China Open and was expected to be a top draw this year. Her US Open win marked her fourth Grand Slam title and made her the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014 to win back-to-back US Open titles.

Sabalenka also played in the finals of the Australian Open and French Open this year. With 56 wins this season and 100 career Grand Slam match wins, she has proven herself as one of the most consistent players on tour.
