The Jaipur Polo Team carried their winning momentum into the Sawai Man Guard Cup, starting the tournament with a 7-4 victory over the Aravali Polo Team at the Rajasthan Polo Club on Wednesday.
Fresh off their title win at the Chinkara Polo Championship, Jaipur displayed sharp coordination and attacking flair. Team captain HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh and South African professional Lance Watson led the way, scoring two and three goals respectively. Their seamless switching between defense and attack proved decisive. Angad Kalaan, continuing his fine form, added two more goals to complete Jaipur’s commanding tally.
Aravali Polo, though spirited, found the match challenging. They managed four goals through Hurr Ali (2), Juan Martin Juri (1) of Argentina, and Kr. Kuldeep Singh Rathore (1). Despite their efforts, they struggled to break Jaipur’s defensive setup.
The two sides will meet again on September 18 in their second group clash. The Sawai Man Guard Cup, an 8-goal tournament, is being contested from September 15 to 21, with five teams aiming for the prestigious title.
Jaipur’s recent form has been outstanding. Just last week, they edged past Kognivera Stallions Polo Team 8-7 in a thrilling Chinkara Cup final. That game highlighted their resilience, with Watson scoring six goals, supported by Dino Dhankar and Angad Kalaan. The win cemented their reputation as one of India’s strongest polo outfits. With back-to-back victories in major competitions, Jaipur Polo Team look determined to continue their dominance this season.
