‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ biopic delayed over Aamir Khan’s script demand

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s much-awaited biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema, has hit an unexpected roadblock. The film, which was set to go on floors in October 2025, has now been delayed after Khan raised concerns about the script.

Khan felt that the script lacked the signature blend of humour, drama, and emotion that Hirani’s films are known for. While he appreciated the subject, he reportedly found the writing too serious and missing the lighter moments that usually balance Hirani’s storytelling. This reaction surprised both Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi, who did not expect such feedback.

Aamir expected the usual Hirani touch — a mix of laughter, emotional depth, and impactful drama. But he felt this version was too heavy and not engaging enough for the big screen, a source revealed. The actor has asked Hirani to revisit the script and bring back the emotional balance audiences expect.

The delay has left the team uncertain about the project’s future timeline. With the film temporarily shelved, Khan is said to be exploring other projects and reading new scripts from filmmakers across the industry.

Fans who were excited to see the successful 3 Idiots and PK duo reunite will now have to wait longer. Whether the film resumes with a reworked script or faces further setbacks remains to be seen. For now, the ambitious Dadasaheb Phalke biopic is on pause.
