“The youth should understand the way our country gained independence, the importance of the Constitution and democracy,” said Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr S Akash.
He was speaking while inaugurating the International Democracy Day celebration organized at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on Monday. “India is the largest country in the world with a democratic system. The reason is our population. The country’s population is about 140 crores, and we have more than 100 crore people who have the right to vote.”
He added, “The people themselves have the right to choose their representatives. The leaders we have chosen through voting are leading us. Therefore, the democratic system is strong in our country because the people decide what kind of leaders such leaders should be.”
“We dedicate the Constitution written by Dr BR Ambedkar to ourselves and celebrate January 26, the day it was officially implemented, as Republic Day. This time, Democracy Day is being celebrated with the slogan Our Vote – Our Right. Dr S Akash said that the young generation should have a comprehensive understanding of how our country gained independence, the elements contained in the Constitution, and the civic policies in the country and the state during their education period,” he continued.
Additional Deputy Commissioner BT Kumaraswamy read out the preamble of the Constitution and administered the oath.
District Superintendent of Police Ranjit Kumar Bandaru said “earlier there was a rule of kings in the country. The strong and powerful used to rule the citizens. However, now that system does not exist, after independence we have a democratic system, and we ourselves choose our leaders as people’s representatives. If we do not know the value of democracy and voting, we will have to return to the previous era.”
