Tragedy struck near Jaipur late Saturday night when a car carrying seven people, including two minors, veered off an overbridge on the Ring Road and plunged 16 feet into a rainwater-filled underpass near Prahladpura, police said. The passengers were returning from Haridwar after attending the last rites of a relative.
According to Shivdaspura SHO Surendra Soni, the accident occurred around 1 a.m., but the vehicle was only discovered by locals at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The underpass was under construction and had not been used by the public for several days, delaying the discovery of the crash.
The mishap reportedly happened due to over speeding. The car lost control on the overbridge, collided with a divider, and fell into the knee-deep water of the underpass. The deceased were identified as Jaipur resident Ramraj Vaishnaw, his wife Madhu, and their 14-month-old son Rudra, along with Kaluram Sadu, his wife Seema, their son Rohit, and grandson Gajraj from Kekadi. The group had traveled to Haridwar to attend the funeral of Sadu’s father.
Authorities recovered the car and the victims’ bodies using a crane. All bodies have been sent for autopsy, and families have been notified. Police confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances of the accident, including road safety and construction site precautions.
