Bike Rally to Celebrate International Democracy Day

Chikkamagaluru

A vibrant bike rally was flagged off on Sunday from the Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner’s Office, marking the beginning of a significant journey to Bengaluru in anticipation of the 18th International Day of Democracy today. The event, themed around the slogan “Nannu Mata NannuHakku” (My Vote, My Right) in Kannada, underscores the importance of democratic participation and voter empowerment.

The rally was ceremonially launched by the DC and the Superintendent of Police, with local officials, community members, and the Chikkamagaluru Bullet Riders Club joining in the festivities. The event, organized under the joint aegis of the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, police, social welfare, and youth empowerment and sports departments, saw an enthusiastic turnout. Banners and flags adorned the scene as 10 bikers prepared to embark on the ride, symbolizing unity and civic engagement.

M.C. Shivananada Swamy, Chairman of the District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, hailed democracy as the most powerful tool in the world, emphasizing its role as a system where people govern themselves for their own benefit. Speaking at the launch of a bike rally, he underscored the significance of collective participation in strengthening democratic values.

Addressing the gathering, Shivananada Swamy noted that International Democracy Day, observed in 162 countries, will be celebrated globally today. In Karnataka, the day has been marked with great success over the past three years, with Chikkamagaluru hosting an especially grand event last year.

The Deputy Commissioner C.N. Meena Nagaraj highlighted the importance of spreading awareness about democracy through the celebrations, which include a month-long series of programs. She announced that ten riders from each district in Karnataka, including Chikkamagaluru, will participate in the rally, culminating in a state-level event at Bengaluru’s Banquet Hall on Monday, September 15. The district administration extended its best wishes to the riders representing Chikkamagaluru.

District Superintendent of Police Dr.Vikram Amate elaborated on the state government’s efforts to commemorate the occasion, noting that last year’s diverse programs set a high standard. This year, alongside the bike rally, activities like a cycle rally, painting competition, photography contest, and debates are being organized to engage the public. He praised the skilled riders participating in the event and extended his good wishes for their journey.

Deputy Director of the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Manjula Hullahalli, was present, and District Social Welfare Officer Malathi welcomed the attendees.

The bike rally began in Chikkamagaluru, traveling through Hiremagaluru Circle, Belur, Hassan, and Kunigal, and is set to reach Bengaluru’s Banquet Hall on September 15, symbolizing a unified commitment to democratic ideals. The bike rally not only promotes safe riding, a cause championed by motorcycle clubs across India, but also serves as a public call to action for voter awareness.

On the International Day of Democracy, this rally stands as a powerful testament to the spirit of participation and trust in India’s democratic process.
