GST 2.0: HUL slashes prices on popular brands

HUL Slashes Prices

New Delhi
Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has announced a significant round of price cuts across its consumer goods portfolio, effective September 22, following reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The revisions apply to a wide range of household names, including Dove shampoo, Horlicks, Kissan Jam, Bru Coffee, Lux, and Lifebuoy soaps.

In a public notice issued through newspaper advertisements, the company detailed the reductions. A 340 ml bottle of Dove shampoo will now retail at ₹435, down from ₹490. Similarly, a 200 gm jar of Horlicks has been lowered to ₹110 from ₹130, while a 200 gm pack of Kissan Jam will cost ₹80, compared with the earlier ₹90. A four-pack of 75 gm Lifebuoy soaps has also seen a reduction, now priced at ₹60 instead of ₹68.

HUL stated that new stock bearing the revised maximum retail price (MRP), or adjusted quantities reflecting the cuts, will soon be available in the market. The company emphasized that these changes aim to pass on GST-related benefits directly to consumers.

Industry analysts said the move highlights both the government’s push for transparency and companies’ need to maintain consumer trust. By mandating that firms advertise price adjustments, authorities ensure that consumers are informed of their entitlement to lower costs.

With household essentials seeing tangible reductions, experts noted that the GST-led rationalization could encourage wider spending and consumer confidence ahead of the festive season.
