Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was presented with a handcrafted memento of the National Emblem by Bichitra Pathak, an artist from Mushalpur in Baksa district. The gesture was praised by the Chief Minister, who expressed deep appreciation for the young artist’s talent and patriotism.
Taking to social media, Sarma wrote, “At a time when some have a problem with our National Emblem, Assam’s youngsters are sculpting near-perfect replicas of this revered symbol. Their talent and love for the country are truly humbling.”
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) also released a statement, calling the memento a heartfelt creation that reflects dedication and artistic spirit.
The event comes amid a wider national debate over the use of the National Emblem, sparked by a viral video showing the emblem being defaced at the foundation stone of the Hazratbal Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized J&K’s Omar Abdullah for defending the act and accused Congress and its allies of insulting the Constitution by staying silent.
Trivedi demanded an apology from the INDIA bloc, calling the defacement an attack on India’s identity and national pride. The incident has drawn strong political reactions nationwide.
