22 nations to compete in TT Championship

New Delhi

Bhubaneswar is set to host the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships from October 11 to 15 at the Kalinga Stadium, marking the first time an Asian-level table tennis event will be held in Odisha.

After the United Arab Emirates withdrew, 22 nations have confirmed participation. The Odisha State Table Tennis Association is preparing to welcome over 500 people, including 450 players and support staff, and around 70–80 officials from the Asian Table Tennis Union.

This will be the first time in 16 years that India hosts this major continental tournament. With Asia leading the global table tennis scene, the competition promises to be intense and of high quality.

Powerhouses China, Japan, and Korea are expected to bring full 10-member men’s and women’s teams, along with large support units. These teams will use the event as key preparation for the 2026 World Team Championships in London.

For many other countries from Central, South-East, and West Asia, this championship is a valuable chance to qualify, with only 12 slots available in each category.

During the event, the ATTU Executive Board will meet on October 13 to discuss development plans and the sport’s future in Asia.
