Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open Super 500 tournament with a determined three-game victory on Friday. The eighth-seeded pair overcame Malaysia’s Arif Junaidi and Roy King Yap 21-14, 20-22, 21-16 in a thrilling 64-minute contest worth USD 500,000.

The Indians started slowly but quickly settled into rhythm. At 12-all in the opening game, they gained control with strong smashes and sharp net play, winning five points in a row to close the first game 21-14. Their powerful coordination and aggressive attack showed why they are one of the most feared doubles pairs.

The Malaysian duo regrouped in the second game, finding gaps in defense and stretching rallies. After leveling at 6-all, they maintained a narrow lead. Though Satwik and Chirag fought back to 20-all, the Malaysians held their nerve to clinch it 22-20, forcing a decider.

In the third game, Satwik and Chirag raised their level once again. They dominated from the first point, never allowing their opponents to lead. Their steady control and relentless attack ensured a smooth 21-16 finish, sealing a well-earned place in the semifinals.

The Indian duo, fresh from a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships, will now face Chen Cheng Kuan and Lin Bing-Wei of Chinese Taipei for a spot in the final.
