Misri Holds Talks with EU PSC to Strengthen Ties

PSC visits India, meets Foreign Secretary, explores defence, security, and strategic cooperation

New Delhi

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks with the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the Council of the European Union on Friday, according to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs. The 30-member PSC delegation, on its first-ever visit to Asia, was led by Delphine Pronk, Chair of the Committee, and included PSC Ambassadors of EU member states along with officials from the European Commission and the European External Action Service.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing political engagement and regular sectoral interactions between India and the EU. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in security and defence, with both sides reiterating their commitment to finalising the India-EU Security and Defence Partnership and the Security of Information Agreement. They also discussed progress on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), urging negotiating teams to complete it by year-end. Additionally, they exchanged views on regional and global developments.

During the two-day visit, PSC members met India’s Defence Secretary, received a briefing on the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), and interacted with representatives from the Indian defence industry. The visit builds on the momentum following the EU College of Commissioners’ landmark visit to India in February 2025 and reflects both sides’ commitment to deepening the India-EU Strategic Partnership.

India and the EU maintain regular dialogue on security, defence, maritime security, cyber issues, and counter-terrorism. Both sides are also exploring enhanced cooperation in the defence industry and manufacturing. Misri was joined by Deputy National Security Adviser Pavan Kapoor, Secretary (West) Sibi George, and other senior officials during the discussions.

This engagement underscores India and the EU’s shared commitment to stronger political, security, and strategic ties.
